Chef Ben made a DELICIOUS Burger giving back to the Canadian Cancer Society!

The majority of us have been touched by cancer, in fact over 1.5 million people in Canada are living with or beyond cancer.  Cancer hits close to home for our January Burger of the Month Guest Chef in Red Deer, Benjamin Bodmer, who was keen to see burger proceeds support the Canadian Cancer Society.

Benjamin’s “Meat Mountain” burger included two Alberta Beef smash patties, Monterey jack cheese, house slow roasted chipotle BBQ pulled pork, two strips of peppered bacon, topped with house slaw, served on a garlic buttered brioche bun.  $2 from every burger sold goes directly to the Canadian Cancer Society!

Having lost his father, grandfather and grandmother all to cancer when he was young, Ben knew he wanted to support the Canadian Cancer Society and their work to fund cancer research, power a national support system to ensure no one faces cancer alone, and help create health policies to make life better for Canadians affected by cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society knows their investments into research are making a difference “today about 64% of Canadians diagnosed with cancer will survive at least 5 years after their diagnosis.  This is up from the 25% in the 1940’s when the Canadian Cancer Society began funding research.  This improvement is due to advances in early detection and more precise, less damaging ways to deliver surgery, radiotherapy and drug therapy”.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Benjamin helped us hand over $1032 to the Canadian Cancer Society today (Thursday, February 16th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $120,000 to local charities over the past 72 months!  THANK-YOU!

The February Burger of the Month in Red Deer is the “Funny Bone”, created in collaboration with local Guest Chef Jenna Goldade!  It includes a Louisiana fried chicken breast with tempura cauliflower bites, topped with our house-made signature cheese sauce, Doritos chips, and shredded lettuce on a garlic buttered brioche bun skewered with a cherry tomato!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Jenna’s local charity of choice, Vantage Community Services.

Our January Burger of the Month raising funds for Rimbey Long Term Care

“The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind”.

There was plenty of love behind our January Burger of the Month in Lacombe, created in loving memory of Grandma (Shirley) Hancik.

Local Guest Chef Sam Hancik was keen to support the staff at Rimbey Long-Term Care for the love and care they provided to his Grandma.  Sam’s “Pickle Chicken Teriyaki” Burger landed on our Lacombe menu for the month of January in her honour.  It included “two grilled teriyaki glazed chicken thighs, tempura fried dill pickle, apple slaw and sesame aioli with a tomato skewer on a buttered brioche bun!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Rimbey Long-Term Care.

Rimbey Long-Term Care is an 84-bed continuing care unit at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre. Donations like this one are used to help enhance health care in Rimbey, making resources available for purchasing equipment and supporting health related programs.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Sam and his family helped us deliver $955 to Rimbey Long-Term Care today (Tuesday, February 7th).  Sam and BAMSS Contracting Inc. also stepped up to match our donation!  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $120,000 to local charities over the past 72 months!  THANK-YOU!

Ice cream sandwiches supporting kids?? HECKYEAH!

You had me at blue monster cookie dough ice cream!  Seriously!  And eating ice cream to support playground replacement at a local school, we’re ALL in!

Lacombe Christian School is on the receiving end of funds from our most recent ice cream sandwich the “Rainbow Monster”.  Our School Ice Cream Sandwich Program sees our culinary teams at both of our restaurant locations dream up an ice cream sandwich with some punch every 3 months, and we select a local school to benefit from ice cream sandwich sales, kicking back $1 of every sandwich we sell in house to a program or project of the school’s choice.

From September to November the “Rainbow Monster” ice cream sandwich was served up at our Lacombe location.  It included two fresh baked monster cookies with blue monster cookie dough ice cream, rainbow sprinkles, and candy glitter! $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold will go towards plans to update the schools ageing west campus playground.

Our team was thrilled to work alongside students at the school in October for an on-site ice cream sandwich sale!  Students held each other to task and their work ethic coupled with their positive attitude helped us serve up more than 450 ice cream treats, raising some additional funds for the school.  A BIG thank-you to school staff and families who supported those efforts!

Today, (January 20th) we were thrilled to hand over a cheque to Lacombe Christian School for $2068 which included $1824 raised from the on-site sale (we’re happy to kick back FULL proceeds from that pre-order fundraiser)!

Our current Ice Cream Sandwich at our Lacombe location is the “Black Forest”.  It includes two chocolate covered house-baked shortbread cookies, dark cherry ice cream, whipped cream, cherry coulis, and chocolate shavings.  $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold is going to Alix-MAC School in Alix for school technology!

We were honoured to attend a prayer service at Lacombe Christian School today, where we handed over School Ice Cream Sandwich proceeds to the Student Council leaders who helped serve them up to their peers!  Between the in-school ice cream sandwich fundraiser and those we served up at our Lacombe restaurant location we were thrilled to turn over a total of $2068 dollars to go towards plans for a new playground!

Results from our December Red Deer Burger of the Month!

“A band is not proud because it performs well; it preforms well because it is proud.” – George Parks.

That sentiment holds true as there was plenty to march on about in December with the “Royal Breakfast Burger” at our Red Deer location in support of the Red Deer Royals!

Local Guest Chef Chris Windrim provided the inspiration for the burger which included two Alberta Beef smash patties, melted Swiss cheese, seared shaved ham, house-made bacon jam and smoky ketchup with a sunny fried egg and tomato skewer on a garlic buttered brioche bun.  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Chris’s organization of choice, the Red Deer Royals Marching Band!

For Chris he was keen to give back to an organization that gave him so much while growing up in Red Deer “it’s where my passion for community was ignited since all members are ambassadors for our city and carry the torch around the world.  It’s where I discovered how lucky we are to be Canadian and that even I can make a difference.  It’s where I met my wife and many lifelong friends.  I’m giving back to them so the next generation can hopefully have the same opportunity that I did”.

The Red Deer Royals’ roots in Red Deer date back to 1902, more formally as an organization in 1968.  The mission of the Red Deer Royals Concert and Marching Show Band is to facilitate an environment of musicianship, learning, friendship and mentoring for musicians and colour guard ages 12-21of Central Alberta and surrounding communities.  The band promotes musicianship, leadership, teamwork, community service and pride.  The Royals will use this donation to help the band fund members through their Adopt-a-Royal fund.    Their current 80 members are looking forward to sharing their music this summer as they travel to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island!

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Chris helped us hand over $1046 to the Red Deer Royals last night (Wednesday, January 18th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $120,000 to local charities over the past 71 months!  THANK-YOU!
