From humble beginnings…a dream was born.
After a number of successful catering functions for friends and family under their belt, owners Rieley and Kim Kay begin a search for a more permanent home and commercial kitchen.
Cilantro and Chive opens in Ponoka!
And the brand is born. With a handful of people, a whole lot of passion, and the community of Ponoka embracing them, Cilantro and Chive entered the scene to showcase fresh and delicious food, highlight local food and drink, and make their customers feel like guests in their own home.
New home, hello Lacombe!
With some luck and support of those who believed in them, their new home at 5021 50th Street in the heart of historic downtown Lacombe was secured. From humble beginnings, and big dreams, they created the atmosphere and community space that you see today, right down to every detail.
Burger of the Month is born…
It all started with Pinky the Pig, the coolest kindergarten teacher ever, and some really creative kids. Rieley read Hamburger Heaven to Mrs. Macintosh’s kindergarten class at Father Lacombe Catholic School, and the kids created their dream hamburgers after. One week later these kids became the very first guest chefs of the Burger of the Month tradition with $2 of every burger sold going to a local charity of their choice.
Launch of Don & Clare Burns Hospitality Scholarship
Don & Clare Burns dedicated their lives in service and hospitality. To those in their community, friends, family, and even to strangers they met on the street. Because of how their legacy impacted Jason in his own hospitality career, Rieley and Kim started an annual Memorial Scholarship in their name for $1500 . Given to one of our own team members based on their own application of Hospitality and Service.

From hand crafted cocktails using house made syrups, fresh fruit, delicious garnishes, and creative ways of putting a spin on some old classics!
We’ve always had a goal of creating a cool, unique space where guests feel at home and come together as a community. Our hearts are in everything you see when you walk into one of our locations – from the upcycled ladder above the bar, to the local art on the walls, to the painstakingly created penny bar.

A beer fridge…or a tourist attraction! Guests love our huge beer selection and finding something new and you’ll always find it at the heart of the restaurant.
Starting in Lacombe we had around 40-50 Craft Beers, and at our peak we’ve carried over 200+ from Alberta and beyond. Cilantro and Chive is known as a destination for our guests to try the very best and newest beers from breweries across this province!
