Patio weather and burgers is there any better combination?! Just like that we’re already reminiscing about summer, and the “Give a Mile” August Burger of the Month at our Red Deer location was the perfect way to cap it off!
Local Guest Chef Becca Swanson co-created the burger which included grilled marinated chicken breast, basil aioli, prosecco caramelized onions, asiago crisp, baby spinach, arugula, and beefsteak tomato on toasted brioche bun. $2 from every Burger sold is going directly to Becca’s charity of choice, the Give a Mile Foundation which provides flights of compassion to those in need of visiting a loved one who is critically ill or dealing with palliative illness. They seek donations of customer loyalty program points (like Air Miles, Aeroplan, credit card points etc.) to make these flights of compassion a reality.
Becca says Give a Mile is an easy foundation to get behind “If you’re like me, you have miles scattered across multiple platforms and some programs will never amount to anything, so why not donate those miles to a great cause? With so many people being affected financially by COVID-19, Give A Mile is a great way to give back if you don’t have room in your budget right now. A new BBQ is thousands and thousands of points (and it’s never the model you really want). One last hug, one last conversation, one last goodbye. That’s priceless”.
Give a Mile Foundation founder Kevin Crowe experienced the power of visits from loved ones for people in palliative or critical condition first-hand during the passing of his good friend Ryan who relished such visits. After learning that over 10 trillion air miles went unused in 2011 alone, Kevin launched Give A Mile with 100% of donations going towards flights of compassion. They’ve been able to provide in the neighbourhood of 150 flights a year.
Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Becca helped us hand over $1416 to the Give a Mile Foundation today (Wednesday, September 1st). Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $85,000 to local charities over the past 55 months! THANK-YOU!
The September Burger of the Month in Red Deer is the “Rebel Moon” created in collaboration with local Guest Chef Cam Moon! It’s a toasted bolillos bun with spicy ground chorizo sausage, buttermilk marinated ancho chili fried chicken breast, butter leaf lettuce, melted cayenne and peppercorn gouda, topped with fresh guacamole! $2 from every “Rebel Moon” will go directly towards Cam’s charity of choice – Special Olympics Alberta!
