July Burger of the Month gives to the Reading College

Heck Yeah!  Support for our beloved Burger of the Month Program is back better than ever in this new normal as everyone makes the best of summer and stops in to support our community program which is truly a labour of love!  “The Rogie” was more than a handful to eat, but so many of you were up to the challenge in July!

Becky Murray helped provide the creative juices for this messy stack which included a ground chuck Alberta beef patty, perogies, sliced bratwust sausage, sautéed onion and bacon, parmesan aioli and sour cream on a pretzel bun!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly towards Becky’s charity of choice, the Reading College, a program of the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools.

Becky was grateful her son had the opportunity to participate in the program this summer, with a firm belief in the importance of literacy to set kids up for success.

Reading College returned for its 9th year in July and although it was delivered virtually this year, they still lived up to their promise of the ‘best summer ever’ for 50 Grade 2 students.  The literacy rich program helps struggling readers, inspiring them to read and write, and be successful in Grade 3 and beyond.  Program Coordinator Elvy Goring points to the importance of that Grade 3 benchmark “third grade reading levels are one of the best predictors of high school graduation”.

Your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program means $1499 was donated to the Reading College today to help support the literacy programming they offer free of charge to families thanks to incredible community support and local donors.

Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $65,000 to local charities over the past 42 months!  THANK-YOU!

August’s Burger of the Month is “The Pineapple Smash”, a grilled chicken breast, sliced pineapple, pineapple teriyaki sauce, sliced smoked gouda, jalapeño, tomato, pickle slices, iceberg lettuce, Miss Vickie’s jalapeño chips, and a pineapple jalapeño aioli on a brioche bun! Adam Nachbauer of Snake Lake Brewing Co. helped inspire this summer stack, with $2 from every burger sold going to his charity of choice, the MS Society – Central Alberta Chapter.
