Results from our September Burger of the Month in Lacombe, bring big smiles to many!

Giving hope to those who think they are alone in this world is the ultimate form of kindness and seeing a 12-year-old behind that kindness is incredible.

Our Lacombe Guest Chef for September was 12-year-old Londyn Hudson who helped us create “The Tower of Londyn”.  It included two Alberta beef smash patties, green mayotchup, tempura mozzarella sticks, beer battered onion ring, blueberry bbq sauce, bacon jam, shredded iceberg lettuce, shaved onion and sliced beefsteak tomato on a sesame kaiser roll with a cherry tomato skewer.  $2 of every burger sold is going directly to Londyn’s local charity of choice, The Broom Tree Foundation.

The Broom Tree Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving women and their families in central Alberta.  The Foundation’s mandate is to maintain an enriched environment focused solely on women in need of support and compassion, empowering them to overcome a variety of obstacles and challenges to achieve their highest potential.

Londyn, knowing her mom faced obstacles in the past without support, wanted to pay it forward to other women in need of help “we need places where women can feel safe.  A place where they can trust others.  A place they can lean on in times of need without judgement.  The Broom Tree is a safe landing place for those that need it”.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Londyn helped us deliver $1362 to The Broom Tree Foundation today (Wednesday, October 5th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $110,000 to local charities over the past 68 months!  THANK-YOU!

The October Burger of the Month in Lacombe is “Second Breakfast”, created in collaboration with local guest chef, Bailee Wigmore!  It includes a Berkshire pork patty, tater tots, sunny fried egg, smashed avocado, smoked maple sambal aioli, beefsteak tomato and shredded iceberg lettuce on a toasted everything bagel!  $2 from every Burger sold goes directly to Bailee’s local charity of choice, the Blackfalds FCSS (Family & Community Support Services) Winter Coats for Kids Program.

Lavender lemonade in the form of an ice cream sandwich?! Oh HECKYEAH!

Lavender lemonade in the form of an ice cream sandwich?! Oh HECKYEAH!  It was the perfect way to end the school year and to entice families to continue to support a local school all summer long.

St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Blackfalds is on the receiving end of funds from our most recent ice cream sandwich.  Our School Ice Cream Sandwich Program sees our culinary teams at both of our restaurant locations dream up an ice cream sandwich with some punch every 3 months, and we select a local school to benefit from ice cream sandwich sales, kicking back $1 of every sandwich we sell in house to a program or project of the school’s choice.

From June to August the “Lavender Lemonade” ice cream sandwich was served up at our Lacombe location.  It included lemonade ice cream with a lavender ripple sandwiched between two shortbread cookies, fresh whipped cream, and a lavender caramel drizzle on top!  St. Gregory has dedicated funds raised to offer opportunities for students to attend summer programming and extra curricular activities.

Our team was THRILLED to work alongside students at the school in June for an on-site ice cream sandwich sale!  A group of middle school students held each other to task and their work ethic coupled with their positive attitude helped us serve up more than 500 ice cream treats, raising some additional funds for the school.  A BIG thank-you to school staff and families who supported those efforts!  Today, (September 13th) we were excited to hand over a cheque to St. Gregory the Great for $2353 which included $2056 raised from the on-site sale (we’re happy to kick back FULL proceeds from that pre-order fundraiser)!

Our next Ice Cream Sandwich at our Lacombe location is the “Rainbow Monster” ice cream sandwich” it includes two fresh baked monster cookies with blue monster cookie dough ice cream, rainbow sprinkles, and candy glitter! $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold will go to Lacombe Christian School to update their ageing west campus playground.

“We live in a world where we need to build a capacity for understanding”

“We live in a world where we need to build a capacity for understanding” – words from our August Burger of the Month Guest Chef in Lacombe on her local cause of choice, Central Alberta Pride Society.

Meagan Parisian provided the inspiration behind the “Chicken Pride Parm”.  It included two fried marinated chicken thighs, spiced tomato jam, house tomato sauce, provolone, and parmesan cheeses on a grilled garlic ciabatta bun, garnished with deep fried basil, a cherry tomato, and a pride flag!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Central Alberta Pride Society.

For Meagan, it’s about having conversations, creating space to understand, and building safe communities.  “We need to take the time to build relationships, feel comfortable to ask questions of one another, and join together to create affirming and safe environments for all. As a bisexual woman, and as the mother of a non-binary kid, it’s important to me to help foster these conversations in a collaborative way. Central Alberta Pride is my charity of choice because they stand firm in their mission to strengthen our LGBTQ2S+ communities by building awareness, advocating for and educating about LGBTQ2S+ locally”.

Central Alberta Pride Society was founded in 2012 to bring LGBTQ2S+ awareness and community to Red Deer and surrounding areas with a mission to strengthen our community and cultivate social change through support, awareness, and education.  Their vision is for a safe community that values, embraces and celebrates Central Alberta’s diversity.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Meagan helped us deliver $828 to Central Alberta Pride Society today (Wednesday, September 7th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $110,000 to local charities over the past 67 months!  THANK-YOU!

Results from our July Burger of the Month in Lacombe!

“Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more” – H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Our July Guest Chef in Lacombe was keen to give to kids through our Burger of the Month Program.  Mary Dallas brought the inspiration for the “Throw Another Shrimp on the Kimchi” burger.  It included a bakery fresh top-cut sub roll, kimchi, Korean BBQ shrimp, nine spice aioli, fresh leaf organic rainbow sprouts, sesame seeds and fresh cilantro!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Mary’s cause of choice, the Lacombe FCSS P.A.S.S. Program.

The PASS Program was initiated to help families facing financial hardship gain access to recreational activities offered in the City of Lacombe.  When possible, fees for children and youth ages 0-18 are subsidized by Lacombe FCSS.  FCSS Executive Director Crystal Zens says recreational opportunities for kids increase their well-being and community involvement.  She notes “last year the PASS Program supported 26 kids, providing close to $2500 allowing kids to dance, play lacrosse, take swimming lessons, play hockey, do karate, box, tumble and more”.

Mary believes in the opportunities the PASS program provides for kids, “during COVID, we all heard a lot about the mental health impact on kids who couldn’t participate in regular sports and recreation activities. Unfortunately, kids not participating in sports and recreation activities outside of school is the norm for many low-income families. We all know kids’ huge benefits when participating in out-of-school activities, whether sports or other recreation. Growing their confidence, building teamwork skills, and finding community, among so many others”.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Mary helped us deliver $811 to Lacombe FCSS PASS Program today (Wednesday, August 3rd).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $110,000 to local charities over the past 66 months!  THANK-YOU!

Giving back to Saving Grace Animal Society thanks to our Burger of the Month!

Summer. Fiesta. 👏🎉🎊
They go hand in hand, and June’s Burger of the Month most definitely created a summer flavour burst! 😎
Guest Chef Austin Weaver brought the inspiration for the “Fiesta Grande Chicken Burger” which landed on our Lacombe menu. $2 from every burger sold went directly to Austin’s cause of choice – the Saving Grace Animal Society 💚🐾
A few years back Austin and his wife Shelby adopted a cat from a local animal shelter andAustin says it changed their lives. “We’ve always had pets in both our families, but “Lulu” was different, she was as big as a football and had a character, unlike any other cat we’d ever had.
She would “Mao” instead of “Meowing”, walk on a leash, and go on road trips with us, she was a big part of our family”. It’s that experience and those memories that made Austin want to support Saving Grace with the BOTM funds.
Saving Grace Animal Society runs an animal rescue in Alix and an off-site sanctuary for larger animals, providing rescue services 24/7 for emergency calls all over Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Saving Grace believes every animal can be rehabilitated, it’s for that reason they take on the hardest cases. The Society operates solely off a donation-based budget, and they are currently fundraising for their very own vet clinic.
Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Austin helped us deliver $898 to Saving Grace Animal Society today!
Because of the love we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $105,000 to local charities over the past 65 months‼️
THANK-YOU!

The P.A.S.S. program stands for PROGRAM ADMISSIONS SPORT SUBSIDY – The PASS program was initiated to help families facing financial hardship gain access to recreational activities offered in the City of Lacombe.
Some words from Mary on why she chose the FCSS PASS Program :
👇
“During COVID, we all heard a lot about the mental health impact on kids who couldn’t participate in regular sports and recreation activities. Unfortunately, kids not participating in sports and recreation activities outside of school is the norm for many low-income families. The PASS program subsidizes sports and recreation fees for children whose families otherwise could not afford these activities. We all know kids’ huge benefits when participating in out-of-school activities, whether sports or other recreation. Growing their confidence, building teamwork skills, and finding community, among so many others. Programs like PASS make these benefits more accessible to all kids! I am so proud to be able to support them as part of Cilantro & Chive’s Burger of the Month.”

Supporting Ponoka Elementary with Mini Egg Ice Cream Sandwiches!

We can confirm, people like mini eggs! And more importantly, supporting local schools!

Ponoka Elementary School is on the receiving end of funds from our most recent ice cream sandwich, the “Mini Egg”.

From March to May the “Mini Egg” was served up at our Lacombe location. It included chocolate egg ice cream, salted chocolate and caramel cookies, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and crushed mini eggs! Ponoka Elementary School has dedicated funds raised to upgrade and refresh their recess equipment! School Principal Nathan McEntee says soccer balls, frisbees, footballs, basketballs and skipping ropes are on their purchase wish list.

Our team was thrilled to work alongside students at the school in April for an on-site ice cream sandwich sale! These elementary kids busted hump to help us serve up more than 375 ice cream treats, raising some additional funds for the school. A BIG thank-you to school staff and families who supported those efforts! Today, (June 6th) we were thrilled to hand over a cheque to Ponoka Elementary School for $2222 which included $1504 raised from the on-site sale (we’re happy to kick back FULL proceeds from that pre-order fundraiser)!

Our next Ice Cream Sandwich at our Lacombe location is the “Lavender Lemonade Ice Cream Sandwich” it includes lemonade ice cream with a lavender ripple sandwiched between two shortbread cookies, fresh whipped cream, and a lavender caramel drizzle on top! $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold will go to St. Gregory The Great Catholic School in Blackfalds to offer opportunities for students to attend summer programming and extra curricular activities.
