THE GENERALS shoot… and score big with our Burger of the Month!!

Definitely some hockey with heart in the month of November as the Lacombe Generals AA Senior Hockey Team stepped up to inspire a burger at our Lacombe location in support of the Lacombe Food Bank.

Teamwork helped create this dream burger, “The General”.  It included two Alberta beef smash patties, jalapeno jack cheese, drunken onions and jalapenos in Blindman Five of Diamonds Pilsner, and bacon tomato sauce on a pretzel bun skewered with a spicy house tempura battered pickle spear!  $2 from every Burger sold in November at our Lacombe location is going directly to the Generals charity of choice the Lacombe Food Bank

Team Manager Jared Williams says the team wanted to support the Food Bank because they know they can always use the help with people coming through their doors every week, and demand increasing as we approach the holidays.  “They definitely need the help, it’s a cause that is close to our group, we’ve always done what we can to support the Food Bank”.  Hustle and heart most definitely set this team apart.

When we checked in with Food Bank Manager Millie Snow on current needs at the Food Bank, she responded with “Everything”.  She is humbled and grateful for the support from the Generals.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program the Lacombe Generals helped us deliver $1258 to the Lacombe Food Bank at Saturday’s home game versus Camrose (the Gens won 7-2!).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $120,000 to local charities over the past 70 months!

THANK-YOU!

DAY 4 – LACOMBE Craft Beer Advent Calendar

We’re excited to showcase a beer with it’s heart in Pincher Creek Alberta, on 🅳🅰🆈 🅵🅾🆄🆁 of our LACOMBE Alberta Craft Beer Advent Calendar! 🎁📅
“𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑”
Stout
Wild Winds Brewery
Pincher Creek, AB
5.5% ABV
On January 10, 1962, the Town of Pincher Creek experienced a “Snow Eater,” also known as a Chinook wind. The town holds the national record for one of the most extreme temperature changes in a single day! The temperature rose from a chilly -19°C to a summery 22°C in just one hour.

A medium-full-bodied black beer with a pronounced roasted flavour, with notes of coffee and dark chocolate with some malty complexity. It has a smooth mouthfeel from adding Canada Malting’s flaked oats and Red Shed Malting‘s Penhold wheat. The hop aroma is low, and the beer finishes dry.

Barrel-Aged Mixed Fermentation Sour
Trial & Ale

Hops have played an important role in the craft beer world since the beginning of the scene’s renaissance.

How the hop has expressed itself has varied and evolved ever since. Admittedly, in the world of sour mixed fermentations, the hop is an understated bit player compared to many other starring role styles, however the uses continue to evolve.

Known for its bitter qualities and its inherent preservative nature, many other vital contributions go unnoticed. In the world of sour beers, dry hopping is the reference standard of uses. Playing up the aroma and flavour of the hop, while minimizing the bitterness is key to a pleasurable experience when combined with acidity. One of our favourite hop varietals that resonates with us and never disappoints is Hallertau Blanc.

With a white wine character, and confusingly fruity AND floral notes, it offers a complex nose and flavour that is typically achieved through hop combinations. While grown in the Hallertau region, it is a far cry from its noble namesake. In actuality, this hop is a close relative of the Cascade varietal from North America, albeit with a distinctly German terroir.

Results from our October Burger of the Month in Lacombe!

Our October Burger of the Month Guest Chef in Lacombe is passionate about supporting kids and is keen to do her part to ensure no young people go without warm winter gear!  We’re happy to help her turn over funds early to help make that happen for families in Blackfalds.

Bailee Wigmore helped us create “Second Breakfast”.  It includes a Berkshire pork patty, tater tots, sunny fried egg, smashed avocado, smoked maple sambal aioli, beefsteak tomato and shredded iceberg lettuce on a toasted everything bagel!  $2 from every Burger sold goes directly to Bailee’s local charity of choice, the Blackfalds FCSS (Family & Community Support Services) Winter Wear Program.

Bailee was raised in Blackfalds, has her finger on the pulse of the community and understands the needs, having served in the non-profit sector and most recently in a local school.  She points to our Alberta winters and the work of FCSS “having a warm winter coat is essential, I chose the Coats for Kids program as I feel it is an amazing initiative supporting many families in Blackfalds. The program aims to provide families in need with the opportunity for their children to choose their own winter coat at Mountain Warehouse free of cost to them.”

As a result of donations like this one and others from the community, Jan Pocock with Blackfalds FCSS says 136 local children and youth will receive a well-fitting, age-appropriate coat to proudly wear this winter. “When the community works together, we can ensure that all children are warm and valued.   If you are a Blackfalds resident and would like more information on this program, please call the Blackfalds FCSS office at 403-600-9066.”

To ensure those families and more have the essential winter gear they need for this winter season we were happy to help Bailee turn over Burger of the Month proceeds in advance.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Bailee helped us deliver $1500 to Blackfalds FCSS on October 5th.  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $110,000 to local charities over the past 69 months!  THANK-YOU!
