Giving back to the Blackfalds Bulldogs Foundation with Barkley!

We were JACKED to walk through the doors of the new Eagle Builders Centre to take in a game and spend some time with our new furry friend Barkley!  Barkley is the mascot for the Blackfalds Bulldogs Junior “A” Hockey Club, and he served as our Burger of the Month Guest Chef in Red Deer for the month of November.

His “Barkburger” included an Alberta beef smash patty, blueberry BBQ sauce, torn chicken, grilled pineapple slice, shredded white cheddar, pickled red onions, and roasted garlic aioli on a garlic butter brushed brioche bun with ketchup seasoning.  $2 from every “Barkburger” sold is going directly to the Bulldogs Community Foundation!

Blackfalds Bulldogs Foundation Executive Director Dustin Moore notes “building an AJHL franchise from scratch is no small feat and the Blackfalds Bulldogs have added an element that very few junior hockey teams across Canada have”.  In April 2021, the Bulldogs Foundation was born. “With the vision of owners Jodie and Doug Quinn, the Bulldogs Foundation mission is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Central Alberta by identifying and addressing current community needs through fundraising and volunteering”. The Bulldogs Foundation is currently working with numerous community partners and organizations and look forward to continuing volunteering and investing into our Central Alberta Community.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Barkley helped us hand over $1278 to the Bulldogs Foundation. Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $95,000 to local charities over the past 58 months!  THANK-YOU!

$2 from every Lone Star burger sold goes towards Savannah’s local charity of choice – the Student’s Association Foodbank ❤️
More from Savannah on why she chose the SA Foodbank :
“The Students’ Association Food Bank was established in 1995 to help combat food insecurity in students. Covid has had a heavy impact on students and their finances, especially international students that are paying twice as much as a domestic student and are only allowed to work 20 hours a week off campus.
On top of Covid, students this year have seen a significant increase in their fees on top of the standard tuition increase. All of this amounts to students being unable to feed themselves and their families, ultimately putting their education on the back burner.
The SA Food Bank provides hampers once a semester, at any point given we’ve received an application. We also provide special Christmas hampers to make sure students are eating over the break. We accommodate different health and religious diets; Anything we can’t purchase will be covered by gift cards included in the hamper.
Though the numbers have yet to be finalized, this year has been one of the busiest for our Food Bank, and we’re finding that we’re struggling to keep up with the requests. Any help from the community will result in more students reaching graduation and keeping their children fed and healthy.”

HECKYEAH Ashley Jackson! Results from our October Burger of the Month!

“I can’t wait to eat a lifetime worth of burgers this month!”  HECK YEAH Ashley Jackson!  Those words, that energy, that determination, all sum up our October Red Deer Guest Chef beautifully.  We were equally as jacked as local photographer Ashley Jackson for her October Burger of the Month “Stacked Up”!

It included roasted brussel sprout and walnut pesto, gorgonzola cheese, beef and pork blended smash patties, prosciutto, fresh apple slices, shredded white cheddar cheese and lays salt n vinegar chips on salt n’ vinegar dusted and toasted potato roll.  $2 from every “Stacked Up” burger sold is going directly to Ashley’s charity of choice -the new Centre for Child & Adolescent Mental Health through the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

When we asked Ashley why she selected the new Centre for Child & Adolescent Mental Health that is being built in Calgary, she pointed to a stat that has stayed with her “1 in 5 children and adolescents in Canada are currently struggling with mental health issues”.  Ashley knows that mental health support and resources at a young age will have life long positive impacts for patients, their loved ones, and our communities and that’s a cause she wants to get behind.

The Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation points to a few other alarming stats when talking about the need for the new centre.  “70% of mental health issues start in childhood”, and “suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people aged 10-24”.  Scheduled to open in the fall of 2022, the Centre for Child & Adolescent Mental Health will include a Walk-in-Clinic to help children, teens and families with urgent mental health and substance abuse concerns.  It will provide intensive treatment options, offering individual, group and family therapy to help young people manage escalating issues and prevent the need for hospitalization.  A pediatric Day Hospital is also part of the Centre, providing therapy and support for young people to transition from a hospital admission back to home and community life, allowing for intensive therapy during the day, and kids to sleep in the comfort of their own beds at night.  It will reduce the length of hospital stays, and help ensure a smooth transition back to home, school, and community.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Ashley helped us hand over $1613 to Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation today (Monday, November 1st).  Included in that total is $385 Ashley collected in cash donations! Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $90,000 to local charities over the past 57 months!  THANK-YOU!

A few words from Dustin Moore, the Bulldogs Foundation Director :
“Building an AJHL franchise from scratch is no small feat and the Blackfalds Bulldogs have added an element that very few junior hockey teams across Canada have.
In April 2021, the Bulldogs Foundation was born. With the vision of owners Doug Quinn and Jodie Schreiner, the Bulldogs Foundation’s mission is to have a positive impact on the Blackfalds and Central Alberta communities.
The Bulldogs Foundation is looking forward to supporting various community partners – from health and wellness, education, grassroots youth sport, animals, and finally supporting our own Bulldogs Scholarship Fund.
With the Bulldogs Scholarship Fund, we want to give back to the players who are invested in our community. The goals outlined above will be achieved through our great donor partners, fundraising events, and team volunteer hours, among many other community events throughout the season.
We are currently building the Foundation from ground zero and creating our strategic direction. We look forward to supporting our community, being a teammate, and creating a Bulldogs legacy in the Central Alberta Community.”

We love this to the Moon and back!!! Our September Burger of the Month results

A definite check in the win column in September at our Red Deer location as Cam Moon stepped out from behind the mic to help create a burger for our beloved Burger of the Month Program, the “Rebel Moon”.  For Rebel’s fans ‘Mooner’ will always hold a special place in their hearts after calling every Rebels game for more than two decades.  He’s now moving towards his 1st anniversary as Oilers radio play by play announcer.

Moon’s “Rebel Moon” burger included a toasted bolillos bun with spicy ground chorizo sausage, buttermilk marinated ancho chili fried chicken breast, butter leaf lettuce, melted cayenne and peppercorn gouda, topped with fresh guacamole!  $2 from every “Rebel Moon” is going directly to Cam’s charity of choice – Special Olympics Alberta!

When we asked Cam about Special Olympics, he pointed to his time with the Red Deer Rebels and the more than 20 seasons Mikel McIver has served as Dressing Room Attendant “I worked with Mikel, he became a good friend.  I was able to see the positive impact Special Olympics made on his life.  That’s the type of impact I’d like to support”.  Mikel has made quite the splash in the pool over the years winning countless medals at the provincial and national level with Special Olympics swimming.

Special Olympics Alberta supports over 3000 athletes in over 26 community programs.  BOTM dollars will help fund the return of their virtual PEAK Program.  Under the program they deliver eight-week programs designed to keep athletes healthy, connected, and active at home while they navigate the challenges of the pandemic.  Special Olympics delivers virtual sessions from workouts to nutrition.  Donations also support daily training for athletes who compete at regional, provincial, national, and international Games.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Cam Moon helped us hand over $1482 to Special Olympics Alberta today (Friday, October 8th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $90,000 to local charities over the past 56 months!  THANK-YOU!

A few words from Ashley about her charity choice :
👇🏽
“The reason I chose the Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health is because 1 in 5 children and adolescents in Canada are currently struggling with mental health issues. Mental health support and resources will have life long positive impacts on the patient, their loved ones and our communities.
Donations are funding the build of the new centre, and also going toward services and home resources that empower and educate families to support the well-being of their loved ones. The new facility will allow for immediate intervention for families in crisis.
Currently, the only option for acute treatment is a hospital Emergency room. As well, the centre provides age appropriate care for older youth that are otherwise waitlisted into adult programs and treatment centres.”
Supporting mental health in our community is so important to us, and this is one delicious way to give back and raise awareness!

Order our Burger of the Month to “Give a Mile”

BEHOLD 💥 our Red Deer AUGUST Burger of the Month – Created in collaboration with local guest Chef Becca Swanson!

“𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲”
Grilled marinated chicken breast, basil aioli, Prosecco caramelized onions, Asiago crisp, baby spinach, arugula, and beefsteak tomato on toasted brioche bun.

$2 from every Burger sold goes directly to the Give a Mile Foundation ❤️ which helps provide the means to people to connect with family and friends who are seriously or terminally ill.

Becca : 👇
“What do you do when someone you love is terminally ill, and you’re across the country, continent, maybe the world? Worse yet, you just can’t afford the flight to get there to say goodbye in time. That’s where Give A Mile comes in.

Instead of asking for dollars, they ask for your unused/extra travel miles (think Aeroplan, Amex points, etc) to get people from wherever, to wherever, to say goodbye to a person they love.

If you’re like me, you have miles scattered across multiple platforms and some programs will never amount to anything, so why not donate those miles to a great cause?

With so many people being affected financially by COVID-19, Give A Mile is a great way to give back if you don’t have room in your budget right now.

A new BBQ is thousands and thousands of points (and it’s never the model you really want). One last hug, one last conversation, one last goodbye.. that’s priceless.”

❤️❤️❤️
