BEHOLD 💥 our new June Burger of the Month for Lacombe!

The 𝐅𝐈𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐀 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐍 𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐑 🍅🥑 created with guest chef Austin Weaver!

A grilled marinated chicken breast with house-made pineapple chipotle tomato sauce, pepper jack cheese, crispy spiced tortilla strips, chunky avocado crema and skewered with a cherry tomato on toasted brioche bun 💯

$2 of every burger sold goes directly to Austin’s charity of choice, the Saving Grace Animal Society 💚

Some words from Austin on the choice of his local charity :
“A few years back, my wife and I adopted a cat from a local animal shelter when we lived in Penticton and it changed our lives. We’ve always had pets in both our families, but “Lulu” was different, she was as big as a football and had a character, unlike any other cat we’d ever had. She would “Mao” instead of “Meowing”, walk on a leash, and go on road trips with us, she was a big part of our time in the Okanagan.

Sadly our time with Lulu was short but the whole experience of adopting a Cat instead of a Kitten stayed with us and that is why we want to support Saving Grace with the funds raised from BOTM.”

These Harmonious Gentleman are Stepping Up to help their community!

There were plenty of chats about burgers and everything in-between in April as the Harmonious Gentlemen joined us as Burger of the Month Guest Chefs in Lacombe!

Just who are the Harmonious Gents?!  Chris Kooman, Graham Langridge and Tyler Capton.  They became friends while teaching at Gateway Christian School in Red Deer, shared a love of podcasts and had a vision to share perspective.  Now they’re serving up open-minded harmonious chats in a regular podcast.

The Harmonious Gentlemen’s creative minds helped fuel the recipe for “Perfect Harmony”.  The burger included marinated chicken breast, smoked cheddar, crispy pickled onion, beefsteak tomato, baby arugula and Heckyeah hot sauce on marble rye and bakery fresh French bread.  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to their cause of choice, Step Up – Student Equity Fund through the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools.

Step Up supports equity and reduces barriers to help students stay in and be engaged in school.  The fund helps to cover necessities that some students in Red Deer Public Schools may go without like breakfast and lunch programs, bus passes, winter clothing, medical and dental care.  Financial challenges should not limit educational opportunities. Chris Kooman says “as teachers, we are connected to students everyday, and we have seen both the hardship that some students go through, as well as the impact that the Step Up Fund can have in meeting these basic needs and making a difference in students’ lives”.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Chris, Graham and Tyler helped us deliver $854 to the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools Step Up fund today (Wednesday, May 4th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $100,000 to local charities over the past 63 months!  THANK-YOU!

The May Burger of the Month in Lacombe is the “Bagel Burger” created with local Guest Chef Torie Goings.  It includes a garlic butter grilled everything bagel, two Alberta beef smash patties each with a slice of provolone cheese, bacon mushroom ketchup, craft beer caramelized onions, over easy egg, sliced tomato, shredded iceberg lettuce picked with a cherry tomato!  $2 from every burger sold goes directly to Torie’s cause of choice the Women’s Outreach Dragonfly Centre.

A few words from Torie on her choice of the Dragonfly Centre:

“Dragonflies represent Hope, Change and New Beginnings.

The Dragonfly Centre is important to me because it provides counselling and support to children that have had to experience traumatic situations. They give children hope and a chance to heal, which provides them the opportunity to grow into happy and healthy adults. The positive ripple effect that is created in our communities by supporting our little ones and teaching them the coping skills to deal with trauma is really incredible.”

Olive the Love for Saving Grace Animal Society!

Olive the LOVE was definitely shared in our Lacombe dining room through the month of March!  Our March Burger of the Month Guest Chef’s share a love for animals and that coupled with their love for olives was a match like no other.

Lacombe residents Luke and Jodie Solomon provided the creative juices for the “Olive My Love” burger which landed on our Lacombe menu.  It included a toasted ciabatta, kalamata olive tapenade, sundried tomato, grilled chicken, fresh cucumber, goat cheese, tzatziki, arugula, garnished with a skewered olive!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Jodie and Luke’s charity of choice Saving Grace Animal Society.

The Solomon’s believe in the work that Saving Grace does to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals, wanting to do their part to help the Society fund food, medical care, and other supplies to give animals the life they deserve.

Saving Grace Animal Society runs an animal rescue in Alix and an off-site sanctuary for larger animals, providing rescue services 24/7 for emergency calls all over Alberta and Saskatchewan.  Brandi Thomson with the Society says they believe every animal can be rehabilitated, noting they take on the hardest cases.  The Society operates solely off a donation-based budget, and they are currently fundraising for their very own vet clinic, set to break ground this spring.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Luke and Jodie helped us deliver $824 to Saving Grace Animal Society today (Saturday, April 2nd).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $100,000 to local charities over the past 62 months!  THANK-YOU!

An 11 year old with a huge heart!

We celebrated 5 years of our Burger of the Month Program in February by going back to our roots, revisiting how it all started with a local kindergarten class and BIG ideas!  We received 100’s of submissions for our Dream Burger Coloring Contest which gave kids an opportunity to design their own burger with a chance of having it land on our menu!

11-year-old Reese Moborg, a grade six student at Central Middle School in Red Deer submitted the winning entry at our Lacombe location, the “Spaghetti & Meatballs Burger”.  It included an Alberta beef smash patty, four beef meatballs, deep fried spaghetti, jalapeno jack cheese, spaghetti sauce, shaved parmesan on a garlic butter toasted pretzel bun!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Reese’s charity of choice Outreach Centre Red Deer’s Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre.

Reese loves sports, especially gymnastics, with goals to represent Canada at the Olympics one day!  She wants all children to have the support they need to achieve the dreams they have, which is why she wanted to support the Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre.

The Centre provides a spectrum of services to children and youth from Red Deer and Central Alberta who are experiencing trauma from domestic violence, homelessness, and suicide.  Using a collaborative approach, the goal is to give kids who have experienced potentially traumatizing events or patterns of events the opportunity to heal and develop healthy skills and behaviors.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Reese helped us deliver $886 to the Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre today (Thursday, March 10th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $100,000 to local charities over the past 61 months!  THANK-YOU!

Some words from Luke :
👇
“Jodie and I both share a love for animals. The Saving Grace Animal Society rescues, takes in neglected animals, rehabilitates, and helps to find a forever home for them.
We chose this charity/organization because we want to help this great cause so that they can continue to provide the support and resources necessary to give them the life that they truly deserve.
Animal rescues need funds for food, medical care, and other supplies until a suitable home is found for them. All donations will make a life-changing difference for each and every animal that comes and goes through the Saving Grace Animal Society’s doors.”

“It’s how you fly that matters” – giving back to the BBBS Lacombe!

“It’s how you fly that matters”.  We can tell you that Jon From of the Lacombe Flying Club most definitely flies with his heart on his sleeve in the most humble sense.  We were thrilled to have Jon share his flight plan for a Burger of the Month in January at our Lacombe location!

Jon co-created the “Pizza Burger”, it included house pizza sauce, two Alberta beef smash patties with provolone and cheddar cheeses, pepperoni slices, sliced pepperoncini on a garlic toasted brioche bun.  $2 from every burger sold will go directly to Jon’s charity of choice Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lacombe and District.

Having had a Big Brother himself, Jon noted the important role Big Brothers Big Sisters plays in the lives of so many of today’s youth.  Big Brothers Big Sisters Lacombe provides mentoring programs for children between the age of 6 and 17.  Mentors build developmental relationships with youth all while participating in fun activities, and youth mentored within these programs experience enhanced self-esteem, increased attendance in school, and strengthened connection to community.  Last year Big Brothers Big Sisters served over 200 youth in mentoring relationships in Lacombe and area.

Executive Director Brianna Berthiaume notes they always have a need for new volunteers, with an ongoing waitlist of youth looking for mentors averaging around 35 youth.  Funds raised from January’s Burger of the Month will go directly towards mentoring programs.  Berthiaume encourages you to consider volunteering as a mentor, noting “with one hour a week a volunteer can make all the difference”.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Jon helped us deliver $840 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lacombe and District today .  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $100,000 to local charities over the past 60 months!  THANK-YOU!
