Celebrating August in giving back to the MS Society!

BAM! ? August was the month to celebrate all things summer, to soak in the sunshine, and “The Pineapple Smash” was the perfect patio burger!
?☀?
Adam Nachbaur of Snake Lake Brewing Co. was the mastermind behind this backyard burger which included a grilled chicken breast, pineapple, pineapple teriyaki sauce, smoked gouda, jalapeño, tomato, pickle, lettuce, Kettle Crunch jalapeño chips, and pineapple jalapeño aioli on a brioche bun!
$2 from every burger sold and thanks to the amazing support of our friends at Snake Lake Brewing – $1 from every Snake Lake pint ? sold in August is going directly towards Adam’s charity of choice, the MS Society of Canada – Central Alberta Chapter.
Adam’s Mom suffers from MS, he also lost a Grandfather to the disease, so its been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. He was keen to help support anyone dealing with MS and their family members who are also navigating the disease.
Canada has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world. On average, 11 Canadians are diagnosed every day. MS is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord). It’s an episodic disease which means the severity and duration of the illness and disability varies, with unpredictable effects.
Your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program means $1698, plus another $150 from our friends at Snake Lake Brewing Company, for a grand total of $1848 was donated to the Central Alberta MS Chapter to help with the work they do providing information, support and advocacy to people affected by MS, and funding research to find the cause and cure for the disease.
Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $65,000 to local charities over the past 43 months! THANK-YOU!

July Burger of the Month gives to the Reading College

Heck Yeah!  Support for our beloved Burger of the Month Program is back better than ever in this new normal as everyone makes the best of summer and stops in to support our community program which is truly a labour of love!  “The Rogie” was more than a handful to eat, but so many of you were up to the challenge in July!

Becky Murray helped provide the creative juices for this messy stack which included a ground chuck Alberta beef patty, perogies, sliced bratwust sausage, sautéed onion and bacon, parmesan aioli and sour cream on a pretzel bun!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly towards Becky’s charity of choice, the Reading College, a program of the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools.

Becky was grateful her son had the opportunity to participate in the program this summer, with a firm belief in the importance of literacy to set kids up for success.

Reading College returned for its 9th year in July and although it was delivered virtually this year, they still lived up to their promise of the ‘best summer ever’ for 50 Grade 2 students.  The literacy rich program helps struggling readers, inspiring them to read and write, and be successful in Grade 3 and beyond.  Program Coordinator Elvy Goring points to the importance of that Grade 3 benchmark “third grade reading levels are one of the best predictors of high school graduation”.

Your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program means $1499 was donated to the Reading College today to help support the literacy programming they offer free of charge to families thanks to incredible community support and local donors.

Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $65,000 to local charities over the past 42 months!  THANK-YOU!

August’s Burger of the Month is “The Pineapple Smash”, a grilled chicken breast, sliced pineapple, pineapple teriyaki sauce, sliced smoked gouda, jalapeño, tomato, pickle slices, iceberg lettuce, Miss Vickie’s jalapeño chips, and a pineapple jalapeño aioli on a brioche bun! Adam Nachbauer of Snake Lake Brewing Co. helped inspire this summer stack, with $2 from every burger sold going to his charity of choice, the MS Society – Central Alberta Chapter.

The recipient of our Hospitality Scholarship

This is Scott.

He was just chosen as the recipient for our Donald & Clare Burns Hospitality Scholarship. This $1500 Scholarship is offered every year to someone on our team who work at Moe’s Pizza and Cilantro and Chive – to anyone attending post-secondary education with hospitality at their core.

Scott has overcome incredible obstacles to get to where he is today, and we have been very fortunate to have him on our team here at Cilantro and Chive for the better part of the last 4 years. To see people grow, change, evolve, and want more for themselves, and especially go get an education is a big reason why we do what we do.

I’m Jason Burns, the General Manager at Cilantro and Chive, and the man behind the scenes on social media. My Mom and Dad pledged their lives to serving their community, and everyone that they knew were lucky to have them impact their lives in a positive way. They are the reason why I got into the hospitality industry to begin with and I am extremely proud to have Scott honor their memory.

We are so proud that Rieley and Kim are continuing the scholarship this year despite all of the challenges with this pandemic. Because encouraging our team to achieve more for themselves and impact this community is a legacy my family and all of us here are extremely proud of – and important now more than ever.

THANK YOU to all of our amazing scholarship submissions, and all the best to our team for their futures!

❤️?????

HECK YEAH!

We were thrilled to see FACES and host guests, and in true fashion support was better than ever as we re-opened our doors and patios for dine in this month. June’s “Dad Bod” burger was
the perfect kick-off to summer!

Lacombe’s Greg and Jason Lunn of D&M Concrete Products Ltd. helped provide the creative juices for this stack of a burger which included an Alberta beef patty, jack cheese, bacon, mushrooms, crispy onions, sunny fried egg, sliced tomato, mixed greens, chipotle aioli, avocado crema and a pickle spear on a brioche bun! $2 from every burger sold is going directly towards Lacombe Community Addiction and Mental Health Office–Children’s Services.

The team of therapists that operate out of the Lacombe Community Health Centre offer one to one support to children and youth who are dealing with complex addiction and/or mental health
needs. In addition to individual therapy, the team also provides groups for both parents and youth to assist in dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, addiction and other mental health concerns. This team works closely with school partners, the Primary Care Network as well as the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre.
Your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program, and the generosity of the Lunn brothers and D&M Concrete who stepped up to MATCH our donation, means $3,068 was
donated to Lacombe Community Addiction and Mental Health Office–Children’s Services today to help support these services for children and youth in Lacombe and area. This summer the
therapist team is running a small pilot group to promote mental wellness activities through peer connection and outdoor physical activity. BOTM proceeds will help cover costs for group
materials like craft supplies and games.

Thanks to the incredible community support we see for our Burger of the Month program month
after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $60,000 to local charities over the
past 41 months! THANK-YOU!
