January Burger of the Month Gives Back

The coffee and donut jokes come along with the uniform, but our January Guest Chef Lacombe Police Constable Josh Smith was all for cranking those jokes up for a great cause – the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre (CACAC).

Constable Smith helped create “The Blue Line” burger, an Alberta beef patty, smoked cheddar, aged cheddar, 2 strips of bacon, Irving’s Farm Fresh back bacon, coffee BBQ sauce, leaf lettuce, onion ring, all on a glazed donut bun.  $2 from every burger sold went directly to his charity of choice the CACAC.

It’s a cause that tugs at heart strings.  The Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre works to support, protect and advocate for children affected by abuse, whether that be emotional, sexual, or physical, neglect or endangerment.  In just over 2 years this not for profit organization has supported over 840 children from 74 central Alberta communities, 25 from Lacombe alone.  CACAC also provides educational services to help people identify and report abuse in our community and school systems, and give courage to help others stand up and advocate for victims.

Thanks to the INCREDIBLE support of our Burger of the Month program, Constable Smith handed over a cheque for $1,271!

We’re blessed with the BEST guests who get behind our Burger of the Month program month after month, allowing us the opportunity to give back over $60,000 to local charities over the past 36 months!  THANK-YOU!

February’s Burger of the Month is “Two of a Kind”, created in collaboration with local guest chef’s Helen and Alvin Peck.  It includes two sliders, slider one is topped with a bacon infused beef patty, jack cheese, caramelized onion, basil aioli, greens, tomato and a pickle, while slider two includes jerk chicken with cumin aioli, sesame slaw, lettuce and sweet potato chips on naan bread! $2 from every burger sold will go directly towards the Peck’s charity of choice, Lacombe and District Big Brothers Big Sisters.

THANK YOU!!

Over $65,000 back to local charities in 3 years!

All because of one special Kindergarten class, and one very special teacher, that began our Burger of the Month program on February 1st 2017
❤️
THANK YOU to all of our amazing guests and our friends and business partners in the community who have helped / and continue to contribute!

This day is really important to us, and brings back a lot of memories, not just of the money raised – but all of the people we’ve met in this incredible journey.

We couldn’t be more humbled to be able to do what we do – and honoured to continue to do fun initiatives to give back to our community and spread kindness – one delicious Burger at a time! ?

BEST GUESTS AROUND, HANDS DOWN!! ?

February 1st, 2017 – the start of our Burger of the Month program!

Are you ready for the story of our Burger of the Month?
?
Feel good THROWBACK to February 1st – 2017
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Just over 3 years ago, Rieley was invited to read to Mrs. Mac’s Kinders Kindergarten class at Father Lacombe Catholic School. The story that was chosen? Hamburger Heaven ?

The story of Pinky the Pig. Working at a restaurant called Hamburger Heaven. But the customers are growing tired of the same old menu – cheeseburgers – and Pinky might soon lose her job due to a drop in sales. So she *springs* into action, devising a menu in which all the customers can choose any tasty topping for their cheeseburgers!

Mrs. MacIntosh (being awesome as teacher’s are) allowed her students to create their “own” Burgers and gave that compilation to us in a fun illustrated book called “Our Dream Hamburgers”.

But little did they know, Rieley came back to the class a week later and announced ? that we would make our own “Dream Burger” based on the kid’s own drawings! ?

Better yet? They got to choose their own local charity, and the kids chose the Lacombe Food Bank!

Then, it was all up to our amazing community. After a successful month selling our Burger, others from the community stepped in to become local “Guest Chef’s” continuing on the legacy of what that kindergarten kid started. The guest chef choosing their own local charity, and helping collaborate on their Burger of the Month.

The rest now, is history! The single MOST important thing we’ve ever been a part of. Helping us also start other programs – donating $10 to the Lacombe Food Bank with every Lacombe Generals Hockey goal ? and our Ice-Cream Sandwich program that helps give back to different local School initiatives ? as well as other important community driven programs.

Just another reason why teacher’s are so important to our kids and community ❤️ and an incredible example of how much love their is in Central Alberta.

THANK YOU to everyone who’s helped been a part of our Burger of the Month program, and we CAN’T WAIT to see where the next 3 years lead us!

January Burger of the Month

“Donut” miss our January Burger of the Month!

“??? ???? ????”

Alberta Beef patty, Smoked Cheddar, Aged Cheddar, 2 strips of Bacon, Irvings Farm Fresh Ltd Back Bacon, Coffee BBQ Sauce, leaf lettuce, and a big Onion Ring all on a GLAZED DONUT!

Created in collaboration with local guest Chef – Officer Josh Smith!

With $2 from every burger sold going directly towards Josh’s charity of choice – the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre ❤️??

Another delicious way to help give back to our local community!

If there’s anything that can land a smile on a face, it’s ice cream!

What happens when you place salted caramel ice-cream between root beer float cookies and serve it up at a local school?  Pure BLISS!

We had a FANTASTIC time at Ècole James S. McCormick School in Lacombe today for our 2nd pop-up sale as part of our new Ice Cream Sandwich Program.  With the help of some grade 3 student leaders at the school, we scooped up 150+ ice cream sandwiches, all in support of the new breakfast program at JS.

In September we kicked off our new Ice Cream Sandwich Program which sees us supporting a new local school every 3 months.  $1 from every one of these treats sold in the restaurant is donated to the school, and until the end of February those dollars will go directly to the JS breakfast program.  Full proceeds from the pop-up sale are also being kicked back to the school!

This is the first year JS McCormick has had a formal breakfast program up and running.  It started off feeding 8-10 kids every school morning and has quickly grown to see over 60 children popping in to curb hunger pains and get them ready to learn.  Assistant Principal Craig Fullarton says “many students come to school hungry simply because their morning was too busy to eat. We have students who ride the bus for an hour so although they might have eaten before they left, they may still arrive to school hungry. Our program targets anyone who needs something in their belly because realistically, if they are hungry, learning is not going to be a priority for them that day”.

We all know food is expensive and the program is relying heavily on donations to purchase the cereal, yogurt, fruit, bread, butter and jam, and cheese, currently on offer every morning. Funds from the school recycling program are also being utilized for the breakfast program.

In March we’ll be on the road again scooping at another school, stay tuned!

4 years now in Lacombe!

Time flies when you’re having fun and it has never been truer than now. 4 years later and we are having the time of our lives here in Lacombe.

And we owe it all to YOU!!! Your amazing support has allowed us the opportunity to do what we love to do, each and every day alongside some of the best in the biz!

While we walk back down memory lane of transitioning what was a bike store and model train shop into our current home, it wasn’t easy. The decision to leave Ponoka was a hard one and one we did not take lightly. We tip our hat to our early days just up the QE2 as we wouldn’t be where we are today without the opportunity to start there.

Flipping the OPEN sign on back in December 2015, we never imagined we would be here crushing our dreams today. Making lists across the province, Canada, the UK and being named “Best Pub/Restaurant in Alberta” by the Small Brewers Association is something we never thought would be a reality.

Through local initiatives like our Ice Cream Sandwiches, Burger of the Month and many others we have been able to give back over $60,000 to local charities and organizations. And we owe this all to YOU!

We truly couldn’t do what we do without YOU! Your support means the world to us as we continue to strive to be the best we can be each and every day.

We raise a glass and celebrate what has been, and we look towards the future knowing we aren’t done. We will continue to strive to be the best we can be, working alongside the best in the business, looking after THE BEST GUESTS AROUND, HANDS DOWN!
Thank YOU!

“It’s mighty neighborly!”

It’s exactly how Sylvan Lake Mayor Sean McIntyre responded to our guest chef invitation in November for our Burger of the Month Program.  It’s hard not to smile when you get the chance to spend time with Sean and he was eager to help give back to his community to an agency that he felt is a real pillar; Sylvan Lake and Area Community Partners Association.

So much positive energy and a little spice helped inspire the “Lake Life” burger.  It included The Ranch Gate Market grass fed beef patty, smoked cheddar, crispy onions, 2 strips of bacon, basil aioli, and a drizzle of hot sauce on a brioche bun with one hot wing and one salt + pepper wing on top!

$2 from every burger sold went directly to Sylvan Lake Community Partners Association (CPA), which creates hope and support for at-risk children, families and individuals through information, referrals, services and programs. Their mission is to provide and connect individuals in need with the basic essentials of life including food, clothing and shelter.

Thanks to the INCREDIBLE support of our Burger of the Month program, Sean handed over a cheque today for $1424!

Donations like this one help ensure CPA can continue to provide services and programs to Sylvan Lake and area residents for free; programs like Coats 4 Kids and Families, Free Annual Community Christmas Dinner, Children’s Clothing and Equipment Swap, Income Tax Program for low-income families and seniors, Infant/Toddler Food Bank, Tools 4 School, and Medi-Lend.

When asked about his Guest Chef opportunity, Mayor McIntyre said “I’m so happy I was able to team up with Cilantro and Chive to support Sylvan Lake Community Partners! The programs and services at Community Partners help thousands of people every year, and the burger of the month was a delicious way to lend a hand in that effort. I’m grateful to the team at Cilantro and Chive for reaching out and working with me to show such love to Sylvan Lake. It’s mighty neighborly!”

We’re blessed with the BEST guests who get behind our Burger of the Month program month after month, allowing us the opportunity to give back over $60,000 to local charities over the past 35 months!  THANK-YOU!

December’s Burger of the Month is the holiday inspired “SANNA!!” burger co-created with Guest Chef Guy Lapointe.  It’s a turkey burger, maple bacon, house-made stuffing, maple sweet potato discs, 2 strips of bacon, sage aioli, cranberry sauce on a brioche bun and garnished with a candy cane!  We teamed up with Echo Lacombe Association who is matching every $2 donation in support of Lacombe and District FCSS’s Fill a Fridge Program.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Our December guest chef was keen to see proceeds from his Christmas dinner inspired burger support a program that embodies the spirit of the holidays; Lacombe and District FCSS’s Fill a Fridge.

Light up the Night celebrations in Lacombe just wouldn’t be complete without Guy Lapointe “Buddy Elf”, so it was fitting that this community champion helped create the “SANNA!!” burger. Turkey burger, maple bacon, house-made stuffing, maple sweet potato discs, 2 strips of bacon, sage aioli, cranberry sauce on a brioche bun and garnished with a candy cane!

FCSS’s Fill a Fridge program provides the gift of holiday groceries to families in need in Lacombe and area. In 2018 they provided $50,400 in grocery certificates to a total of 221 households, feeding 326 adults and 293 children. The program is unique in that it allows families to purchase their OWN food items and make choices that work for their family.

Our Burger of the Month program sees $2 from every burger sold going directly to our guest chef’s charity of choice. This will still be the case, but given the time sensitive nature of the Fill a Fridge program we’re happy to provide funds up front and are THRILLED our friends at Echo Lacombe Association have stepped up to match our donation.

Drum roll please……together today we delivered $5,000!

President of Echo Lacombe Association Jared Reich says “Echo Energy is proud to team up with Cilantro and Chive to help Lacombe & District FCSS get food on the tables of families in need. Our core goal is to give back to the community in engaging and meaningful ways, so we’re very happy to match Cilantro and Chive’s donation from the “SANNA!!” burger proceeds”.

Guest Chef Lapointe LOVES the giving spirit of the holidays and says “Fill a Fridge is all about helping our friends and neighbours share in the festive season. This fun collaboration between Cilantro and Chive and Echo Lacombe allows everyone to stuff themselves while helping others in need to do the same this Christmas”.

We’re blessed with the BEST guests who get behind our Burger of the Month program month after month, allowing us the opportunity to give back over $60,000 to local charities over the past 35 months!

THANK-YOU!

Ice Cream Sandwich Gives Back to Kids!

Thanks to an AWESOME group of Leadership students and the Father Lacombe Catholic School community we were thrilled today to turn over the proceeds from our confetti cake ice cream sandwich pop-up sale held at the school last month.

These grades 4-6 Leadership students work hard to organize events at the school; everything from fundraisers to social justice projects. There was nothing but smiles when they jumped in to help us scoop and serve 154 ice cream sandwiches to fellow students and staff.

In September we kicked off our new ??? ????? ???????? ??????? which sees $1 from every one of these treats sold at the restaurant donated to a local school. Until the end of this month Father Lacombe will be on the receiving end of those funds. Our plan was to also give back $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold at the pop-up sale to the school, but with the positive, energetic, warm welcome we received, we decided to kick back the entire $4 per sandwich cost, translating into $???! ❤️

School Principal Maria Wagner says the money will be used for their Student Support Fund. The school dips into that fund for various needs; providing snacks in the classroom for kids who haven’t had breakfast before arriving to school, for students who want to play sports or be involved in other extracurricular activities that may not be able to because of financial reasons, it’s also been utilized to provide gift cards to school families in need.

In December we’ll be on the road again scooping at another school, stay tuned!
