Created in collaboration with local guest Chef Roxanne Martin. With $2 from every Burger sold going directly to Roxanne’s charity of choice, the Red Deer Meals on Wheels

????

More from Roxanne about why she chose Meals on Wheels :

“I’m so passionate about great food and believe no one should go without a decent meal! Food nourishes us, food brings us together. My grandmother passed away last year, we were able to deliver some meals to her while she was isolated before she passed. It made all the difference for her. My elderly neighbor lost his wife and broke his hip recently; I’ve seen first hand how much a meal can bring us together and can make a difference in someone’s day. Especially over the last year with the pandemic, essential services like Meals on Wheels have not only provided nutritious and delicious meals to those in our community, but have also been a social and caretaking lifeline to those that are unable to cook for themselves.  I’m SO thankful these services exist in our community.”

Meals on Wheels can serve anywhere from 50-120 people a day, these numbers change daily.  The meals are delivered by approximately 50 volunteers who become like family over time and they check in on them.  They only charge $8 per meal, and it’s not just for seniors, anyone can use the service if they are unable to make food for themselves.

Raising money for Underdogs Rescue thanks to our JANUARY Burger of the Month!

HECKYEAH!!  January meant a little extra boost for our beloved Burger of the Month program as we opened our Red Deer location mid month to serve up even more burgers!  Our Executive Chef Mike Doppler was the creative mind behind the “Meatsweats”; a grilled sirloin beef patty piled high with shaved pastrami, wine sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese, on a toasted pretzel roll with Russian dressing!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly towards Chef Mike’s charity of choice Underdogs Rescue.

Mike and his wife Heather recently took in a rescue dog from Underdogs Rescue Foster Care Program.  The not-for-profit organization is run completely by volunteers and Mike knows the weight all charitable organizations are feeling, but especially this one following the Christmas season when many new pet owners may be overwhelmed with the commitment required in caring for a pet.  The Doppler’s are overjoyed with their new family member “Piper”, a Staffordshire Terrier Mix with a plushie addiction, and are thrilled to give back to this organization after such a positive experience.  Underdogs Rescue is dedicated to rescuing large “power” breed dogs in shelters across Canada, committed to the re-homing of these dogs, through rescue, rehabilitation, training, and care to responsible and loving dog owners.  Donations go straight to the care of their dogs.

BAM!  Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Mike helped us hand over $882 to Underdogs Rescue today.  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $70,000 to local charities over the past 48 months!  THANK-YOU!

February marks an exciting turn for our Burger of the Month program.  We are introducing 2 Guest Chef’s, two burgers and two causes as we continue this program in both our Lacombe and new Red Deer location.  In Lacombe we collaborated with City Councillor Cora Hoekstra on the “Spicy Yorkshire”.  It includes a grilled beef patty on toasted yorkshire pudding buns, horseradish cream cheese spread, house jalapeno jam, mixed greens, beefsteak tomatoes, house pickled red onions and fried pickle chips garnished with cajun onion rings!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Cora’s charity of choice Lacombe and District Historical Society.  In Red Deer we teamed up with Dustin Harper from Bo’s Bar and Stage for the “Rink Burger”.  It includes two smash burger patty’s, smoked cheddar, house ketchup, grainy honey yellow mustard, red onion and neon green dill pickle relish on a potato roll wrapped in a hockey rink style foil bag!  $2 from every burger sold will go directly to his charity of choice, Normandeau School Values Program.

Our Ice Cream Sandwich gives back!

Different times calls for different twists and turns, but regardless we are thrilled to keep our Ice Cream Sandwich Program supporting local schools going strong! We had the pleasure of spending some time in early March at Terrace Ridge School for our 3rd pop-up stop. As a result of the covid 19 restrictions our program took a little break, but we were excited to kick in another 3 months of ice cream sandwich sales from September to the end of November.

Under the program we kick back full proceeds from the pop-up sale ($4/sandwich) as well as $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold in the restaurant over the 3-month period to the school. Our latest creation was a play on black forest cake; 2 maraschino cherry cookies with Dutch chocolate ice cream and sprinkles!

Today we were honored to hand over a cheque for $1,090!

Terrace Ridge will be using the proceeds to help replace and supplement Physical Education Supplies and Resources. Schools do receive funding for basic gym supplies like dodge balls, volleyballs, basketballs, nets, hula hoops, bean bags, badminton rackets and more but maintaining those items each year is costly. The school needs to ensure they always have enough equipment for 30-50 students to participate at a time and with over 400 students at the school that equipment is well used! School Principal Deborah Van Delden says they are also eager to expose students to as many new and exciting opportunities as possible and they currently have a wish list that includes indoor floor curling, don’t walk in the hallway decals, Gaga Ball, and 9 square in the air.

A BIG thank-you to the amazing group of Grade 6 students who worked alongside our team for the pop-up in March, and to all parents who helped their kids purchase an ice cream sandwich treat at school, not to mention those that made a trip into the restaurant to dig into one!

For the next 3 months we’re supporting Iron Ridge Intermediate Campus and their nutrition program with the “Super Hero” Ice Cream Sandwich. Strawberry, Banana, Blueberry ice cream is nestled in-between 2 house baked double chocolate cookies, and a house-made bubble gum whipped cream!

You weren’t afraid of no ghosts!!

Our guests were not afraid of no ghosts nor a burger on a black bun in October, and we’ll call that a big YES for our Burger of the Month Program.  We were thrilled to team up with Chad Carlson of the Carlson Manor in Lacombe for this goulishous “Trick or Treat Burger” with $2 from every burger sold in October going directly to the Lacombe Food Bank.

Chad is passionate about Halloween, it was even written into his wedding vows, and he’s been putting together spooky Halloween displays for the community to enjoy for more than ten years (5 in Lacombe, 6 in Stony Plain), always supporting his local food bank.  It seemed like the perfect opportunity to showcase his hard work and crank up the support for our local food bank, especially during these challenging covid times.  Chad was quick to adapt to the covid challenges, moving his typically indoor haunted house to an outdoor display this year.

Just how do you find a passion for Halloween?!  We asked Chad…

With an October birthday, I’ve always found Halloween to be such an extra fun and exciting time of year.  In my youth I found a passion for theatre, graduating high school from the Victoria Performing School of Arts in Edmonton.  Now, as an adult and parent, I love that I have found a way to combine aspects of the two through the Haunt while giving back to the community.  For us the Food Bank has been an easy choice.  We want to teach our kids ways to be grateful for what they have and the importance of giving to others.  What better way to do that than with something tangible like food that they can see, relate to and even help deliver.”

Chad’s “Trick or Treat Burger” included a sirloin beef patty, pepper bacon, smoked cheddar, deep fried pickle chips, beefsteak tomatoes, maple balsamic ketchup, leaf lettuce, and onion on a garlic butter toasted black squid ink bun with a candy worm!

Your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program means $1514 was donated to the Lacombe Food Bank today, plus A TRUCK LOAD of food that the Carlson’s collected at the Manor!

Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $65,000 to local charities over the past 45 months!  THANK-YOU!

November’s Burger of the Month is the “HURRY HARD!” Burger, created in collaboration with local curling legend Colin Hodgson of Team Mike McEwan.  It includes a grilled bison patty, mixed greens, beefsteak tomatoes, house made saskatoon berry jam, savory peanut butter, 2 strips of pepper bacon, garnished with a fried onion ring with chipotle aioli on a toasted brioche bun!  $2 from every burger sold will go directly to Colin’s charity of choice – KidSport!

This never gets old…

$65,000+ to local charities over the past 44 months

❤️?????
ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!

There were fist and elbow pumps all around in September as many families slid back into a little normalcy. Many kids were jacked to see their friends again and “The Back to School Burger” was a great way to celebrate the longest spring break in history!

Crestomere Junior High School Teacher Rory Whitbread studied his ingredient list long and hard as he helped create the perfect burger to slide into fall with.

Rory was keen to utilize local ingredients, even sourcing honey from Crestomere School. $2 from every burger sold in September is going directly towards Rory’s charity of choice,

Lacombe & District FCSS PASS Program.

The Pass Program (Program Admissions Sport Subsidy) allows local families facing financial hardship access to local recreational programs in the City and County of Lacombe, increasing their well being and community involvement. FCSS knows that children who are involved in activates (Sport/Drama/Art/Clubs etc.) are more connected to the community. Children who are more connected do better in school, are more confident and feel less alone. Last year the program helped 29 local children play!

Given his career in teaching, his experience as a community coach and being a father of 3, Rory understands the benefits of extracurricular activities for kids. He wanted to support a program that ensures all kids have an opportunity to participate in activities outside of school, “we have been thrown some curve balls this year. Many families have been limited in their abilities to pay for school supplies and play in community sports. FCSS PASS program is an incredible community boost to help those in need and ensure everybody gets back in the game!”

Your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program means $1138 was donated to Lacombe FCSS’s Pass Program today.

THANK YOU for your ongoing support of our Burger of the Month program!

BOO! Our new October Burger of the Month!
