A few words from Torie on her choice of the Dragonfly Centre:

“Dragonflies represent Hope, Change and New Beginnings.

The Dragonfly Centre is important to me because it provides counselling and support to children that have had to experience traumatic situations. They give children hope and a chance to heal, which provides them the opportunity to grow into happy and healthy adults. The positive ripple effect that is created in our communities by supporting our little ones and teaching them the coping skills to deal with trauma is really incredible.”

Burgers, women, beers! Our Red Deer 2022 March Burger of the Month

Burgers, women, beers.  Put that combo into action and the sky is the limit!  High fives up high, down low, and around the back for our March Burger of the Month Guest Chef in Red Deer who dreamed BIG and will play a role in making dreams come true for women for years to come.

Bobbi Cullum, a Brewer at Troubled Monk was ALL IN as Guest Chef, helping us create the “Turkey Run”.  It included two ground turkey smash patties, with roasted beet goat cheese, arugula, red beet chutney, Louisiana spiced onion rings, and spent grains dill pickle mustard relish on a toasted brioche bun.  $2 from every Burger sold goes directly to Bobbi’s local cause of choice – The Olds College Women and Non-Binary Folk in Brewing Award.

Bobbi says she’s received support and mentorship from fellow women in the brewing industry, she’s passionate about seeing more women supported and is thrilled at the opportunity to pay it forward.  She was keen to support Alberta’s only teaching brewery nestled in the heart of the prairies, helping to introduce this brand-new award at Olds College.

Victoria Keeling-Barrand with Olds College notes it will be awarded to a full-time female/non-binary student in the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management Diploma Program and can be used for programming specific to their education at Olds College, and professional development opportunities including add-on programs like the Craft Distilling Certificate.  Olds College boasts a 2,300 square foot brewing facility where students can learn the art, science, and business of the vibrant and evolving brewing industry through a two-year hands-on training program.

Olive the Love for Saving Grace Animal Society!

Olive the LOVE was definitely shared in our Lacombe dining room through the month of March!  Our March Burger of the Month Guest Chef’s share a love for animals and that coupled with their love for olives was a match like no other.

Lacombe residents Luke and Jodie Solomon provided the creative juices for the “Olive My Love” burger which landed on our Lacombe menu.  It included a toasted ciabatta, kalamata olive tapenade, sundried tomato, grilled chicken, fresh cucumber, goat cheese, tzatziki, arugula, garnished with a skewered olive!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Jodie and Luke’s charity of choice Saving Grace Animal Society.

The Solomon’s believe in the work that Saving Grace does to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals, wanting to do their part to help the Society fund food, medical care, and other supplies to give animals the life they deserve.

Saving Grace Animal Society runs an animal rescue in Alix and an off-site sanctuary for larger animals, providing rescue services 24/7 for emergency calls all over Alberta and Saskatchewan.  Brandi Thomson with the Society says they believe every animal can be rehabilitated, noting they take on the hardest cases.  The Society operates solely off a donation-based budget, and they are currently fundraising for their very own vet clinic, set to break ground this spring.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Luke and Jodie helped us deliver $824 to Saving Grace Animal Society today (Saturday, April 2nd).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $100,000 to local charities over the past 62 months!  THANK-YOU!

👇
“I chose them in honour of my brother-in-law who passed away at the end of last year. He struggled with addiction and mental health issues. He was someone who treated absolutely everyone he met with love and compassion and I think that’s what Safe Harbour does as well.

I also know they are almost always in desperate need of supplies and support, so that helps too…and really is the main reason at the end of the day.”

An 11 year old with a huge heart!

We celebrated 5 years of our Burger of the Month Program in February by going back to our roots, revisiting how it all started with a local kindergarten class and BIG ideas!  We received 100’s of submissions for our Dream Burger Coloring Contest which gave kids an opportunity to design their own burger with a chance of having it land on our menu!

11-year-old Reese Moborg, a grade six student at Central Middle School in Red Deer submitted the winning entry at our Lacombe location, the “Spaghetti & Meatballs Burger”.  It included an Alberta beef smash patty, four beef meatballs, deep fried spaghetti, jalapeno jack cheese, spaghetti sauce, shaved parmesan on a garlic butter toasted pretzel bun!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Reese’s charity of choice Outreach Centre Red Deer’s Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre.

Reese loves sports, especially gymnastics, with goals to represent Canada at the Olympics one day!  She wants all children to have the support they need to achieve the dreams they have, which is why she wanted to support the Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre.

The Centre provides a spectrum of services to children and youth from Red Deer and Central Alberta who are experiencing trauma from domestic violence, homelessness, and suicide.  Using a collaborative approach, the goal is to give kids who have experienced potentially traumatizing events or patterns of events the opportunity to heal and develop healthy skills and behaviors.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Reese helped us deliver $886 to the Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre today (Thursday, March 10th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $100,000 to local charities over the past 61 months!  THANK-YOU!

Smiles all around in raising some cash for local schools!

Smiles all around.  Raising some cash for local schools.  Win.  Win!

The latest stop for our Red Deer School Ice Cream Sandwich Program was St. Teresa of Avila School.  Every three months, both of our restaurant locations select a local school to benefit from ice cream sandwich sales, and we kick back $1 of every sandwich sold to a program or project of the school’s choice.

The “Espresso Yourself” ice cream sandwich landed on our Red Deer menu from December through February.  It included chocolate espresso flake ice cream with dark chocolate peppermint patty, nestled in-between two ginger molasses cookies and topped with candy cane whipped cream.  $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold went towards St. Teresa’s efforts to be a mindful school, creating a culture of mindfulness, kindness and gratitude.

School Principal Nicole Zimmerman says St. Teresa has been working towards becoming a mindful school for the past three years.  They will use the funds raised to purchase mindful tools, books and resources for classrooms. You can follow some of the work happening in the classroom on the school’s social media channels #themindfulschool or sttavila.

Our team was thrilled to deliver ice cream sandwiches to the school in February as part of a pre-order sale.  A huge pat on the back to all the parents that ordered these sweet lunch treats, affording us the opportunity to raise some additional funds for the school!

Today we handed over a cheque to St. Teresa of Avila for $1267 which included $1060 raised from the school lunch order (we’re happy to kick back FULL lunch order proceeds)!

Our current Ice Cream Sandwich at our Red Deer location is the “Monster Jam” which includes two monster cookies with Algonquin ice cream, green whipped cream and a Cadbury cream egg cracked over top! $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold will go towards Normandeau School and their “Come Grow With Me” campaign to build a greenhouse for the kids!

How can you turn down dessert for a good cause?! 💗🍦

Through our School Ice Cream Sandwich Program, you indulge in an ice cream sandwich all while helping to raise funds for a local school. Every three months both of our restaurant locations select a local school to benefit from ice cream sandwich sales, kicking back $1 of every sandwich sold to a program or project of the school’s choice.

Our Lacombe location recently served up the “Apple pie à la mode”! Dutch apple pie ice cream sandwiched between two white chocolate cranberry shortbread cookies topped with whipped cream, spiced caramel drizzle and caramel apple slices. $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold went directly towards Bentley School and their “Families in Need” fund.

School Principal Lane Moore says the fund is used year-round to support the Town of Bentley Blessing Pantry (local food bank), families in their school community who are in need of grocery or fuel gift cards, to provide hot lunches, and school supplies throughout the year to students in need and at other times to support families who experience a tragedy such as the loss of parent or home.

Our team was thrilled to deliver ice cream sandwiches to the school in January as part of a pre-order sale. And a BIG thank-you to school staff and families who made the trip out to indulge in support of the school! Today we were thrilled to hand over a cheque to Bentley School for $883 which included $632 raised from the school lunch order (we’re happy to kick back FULL lunch order proceeds)!

Our current Ice Cream Sandwich at our Lacombe location is the “Mini Egg” ice cream sandwich! It includes chocolate egg ice cream, salted chocolate and caramel cookies, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and crushed mini eggs! $1 from every ice cream sandwich sold will go to Ponoka Elementary School with funds dedicated to upgrade and refresh their recess equipment!

Supporting the Make a Wish Foundation with Alexis Adair!

11-year-old Alexis Adair submitted the winning entry at our Red Deer location, “Lime in’a Coconut”.  It included marinated chicken breast with creamy jalapeno Havarti cheese, lime coriander aioli, shredded iceberg lettuce and toasted shaved coconut on garlic toasted brioche!  $2 from every Burger sold is going to Alexis’ charity of choice – the Make a Wish Foundation of Northern Alberta.

For Alexis the make a Wish Foundation holds a special place in her heart.  Her 7-year-old brother Blake suffers from congenital heart disease and has undergone numerous surgeries and procedures in his young life.  In January of 2019 Alexis’s family was blessed with a Make a Wish trip of a lifetime to Florida for Blake’s wish to meet Maui from Disney’s Moana.  Alexis remembers the trip fondly, was appreciative of the opportunity and amazed by the generosity.  She was eager to give back to a cause that allowed her entire family to have fun and make lasting memories.

Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.  A wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness.  Since 1983, Make-A-Wish Canada has granted over 36,000 wishes across the country, over 1,000 last year alone.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Alexis helped us hand over $1086 to Make A Wish Foundation Northern Alberta today. Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $100,000 to local charities over the past 61 months!  THANK-YOU!
