Our Lacombe September Burger of the Month gives back to Aspire Special Needs

“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them”.  A local Vice Principal who believes in the potential of ALL kids deserves an A+ for his September Burger of the Month at our Lacombe location!

Craig Fullarton, the Vice Principal at Ecole James S. McCormick School in Lacombe, served us our Guest Chef.  He helped create “The Vice”, an Alberta smash patty, boneless short rib, jalapeno jack cheese, queso cheese sauce, deep fried Cheeto breaded jalapenos, shaved onion, mixed peppers, beefsteak tomatoes, mixed greens, on a Cheeto dusted brioche bun!  $2 from every burger sold is going directly towards Craig’s charity of choice – Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre.

Craig says children are our greatest and most valuable resource, “every child is a special, unique individual that deserves the chance to be successful”.  As a local educator he’s had the opportunity to see firsthand the service Aspire provides “the level of energy, passion, optimism, hope and compassion they demonstrate in their work is evident.  There is nothing quite like the smile of a child as they learn and realize they have achieved success and Aspire’s commitment to making this happen for all children is incredible”.

Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre is a charitable organization providing hope to children with special needs, the families who love them and the communities that care for them.  The Centre works with families, schools, educators, and community agencies to deliver quality education that meets kids’ specific needs, allowing them to reach their full potential.  BOTM funds will be directed to Aspire’s Fee Assistance Program which ensures families access to their services regardless of their income.  Those services allow families to work with a team of professionals like a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, and Speech and Language Pathologist to create individualized learning plans specific to each child.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Craig helped us deliver $1334 to Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre today (Wednesday, October 13th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests for our Burger of the Month program month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $90,000 to local charities over the past 56 months!  THANK-YOU!

The October Burger of the Month in Lacombe is the “Supercrunch”, created in collaboration with local guest chef Taryn Hancock!  It includes crispy tempura fried chicken, grilled pepper bacon, spicy pepperoncini jam, fresh beefsteak tomato, cilantro, green onion, mixed greens, mary rose sauce on garlic butter toasted brioche bun. Finished with a pepperoncini bamboo pick.  $2 from every “Supercrunch” burger will go directly towards Taryn’s charity of choice – the Lacombe Health Trust

I’m Jason Burns, the General Manager at Cilantro and Chive, and the person behind the scenes on social media. My Mom and Dad pledged their lives to serving their community, and impacted a lot of people in a positive way. They are the reason why I got into the hospitality industry, and I am extremely proud to have Fiona and Victoria honor their memory.

My family is so proud that Rieley and Kim are continuing the scholarship despite all of the challenges. Encouraging our team to achieve more for themselves and impact this community in a positive way is a legacy that all of us here are extremely proud of – and know is important now more than ever.

THANK YOU to all of our amazing scholarship submissions, and all the best to our team for their futures!

We love this to the Moon and back!!! Our September Burger of the Month results

A definite check in the win column in September at our Red Deer location as Cam Moon stepped out from behind the mic to help create a burger for our beloved Burger of the Month Program, the “Rebel Moon”.  For Rebel’s fans ‘Mooner’ will always hold a special place in their hearts after calling every Rebels game for more than two decades.  He’s now moving towards his 1st anniversary as Oilers radio play by play announcer.

Moon’s “Rebel Moon” burger included a toasted bolillos bun with spicy ground chorizo sausage, buttermilk marinated ancho chili fried chicken breast, butter leaf lettuce, melted cayenne and peppercorn gouda, topped with fresh guacamole!  $2 from every “Rebel Moon” is going directly to Cam’s charity of choice – Special Olympics Alberta!

When we asked Cam about Special Olympics, he pointed to his time with the Red Deer Rebels and the more than 20 seasons Mikel McIver has served as Dressing Room Attendant “I worked with Mikel, he became a good friend.  I was able to see the positive impact Special Olympics made on his life.  That’s the type of impact I’d like to support”.  Mikel has made quite the splash in the pool over the years winning countless medals at the provincial and national level with Special Olympics swimming.

Special Olympics Alberta supports over 3000 athletes in over 26 community programs.  BOTM dollars will help fund the return of their virtual PEAK Program.  Under the program they deliver eight-week programs designed to keep athletes healthy, connected, and active at home while they navigate the challenges of the pandemic.  Special Olympics delivers virtual sessions from workouts to nutrition.  Donations also support daily training for athletes who compete at regional, provincial, national, and international Games.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program Cam Moon helped us hand over $1482 to Special Olympics Alberta today (Friday, October 8th).  Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $90,000 to local charities over the past 56 months!  THANK-YOU!

The October Burger of the Month in Red Deer is “Stacked Up” created in collaboration with local Guest Chef Ashley Jackson!  It includes roasted brussel sprout and walnut pesto, gorgonzola cheese, beef and pork blended smash patties, prosciutto, fresh apple slices, shredded white cheddar cheese and lays salt n vinegar chips on salt n’ vinegar dusted and toasted potato roll.  $2 from every “Stacked Up” burger sold goes directly to Ashley’s charity of choice – Centre for Child & Adolescent Mental Health through the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

$2 from every Stacked Up burger sold goes directly to Ashley’s charity of choice – Centre for Child & Adolescent Mental Health through the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation
A few words from Ashley about her charity choice :
👇🏽
“The reason I chose the Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health is because 1 in 5 children and adolescents in Canada are currently struggling with mental health issues. Mental health support and resources will have life long positive impacts on the patient, their loved ones and our communities.
Donations are funding the build of the new centre, and also going toward services and home resources that empower and educate families to support the well-being of their loved ones. The new facility will allow for immediate intervention for families in crisis.
Currently, the only option for acute treatment is a hospital Emergency room. As well, the centre provides age appropriate care for older youth that are otherwise waitlisted into adult programs and treatment centres.”
Supporting mental health in our community is so important to us, and this is one delicious way to give back and raise awareness!

$2 from every Supercrunch burger will go directly towards Taryn’s charity of choice – the Lacombe Health Trust 💚

A few words from Taryn about her charity choice :
👇
“A little about me and my charity…. I’ve been a resident of Lacombe since December 2012, and have been in love with our community ever since. I came from bigger cities, Lethbridge, Edmonton, Regina, etc so moving here was a change, but a fantastic one. The close-knit feel of our community is something to be proud of. Times have been hard lately, but I feel like we will get back to it in the near future.

I’ve been employed at the Lacombe Hospital since 2014, and exclusively work in the ER now for the last three years. The number of community members I’ve met over the years, gotten to know and care for, is amazing. I love my career (although it’s often a tough job), and hope that my love comes across in my bedside manner.I chose the Lacombe Health Trust for this month’s charity so that we can directly influence and improve the healthcare that is provided to members of our community — to directly benefit our neighbours, friends, and family through the proceeds of Cilantro and Chive’s BOTM.”

SO EXCITED for this opportunity to support health care in our community, one delicious Burger at a time!
